About Our Practice

Dr. Kozinn specializes "tissue sparing" joint replacement surgery and minimally invasive / arthroscopic orthopedic surgery. These muscle sparing techniques for Joint Replacement use similar implants as traditional surgery, but avoid cutting muscle and tendon tissue as much as possible. These special techniques require additional experience and training to perform well, and they can provide great benefits of decreased pain and reduced recovery time after surgery. Dr. Kozinn has been the Chief of Surgery at Scottsdale Medical Center -Osborn, as well as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery.  He has been doing Total Hip, Total Knee, and Total Shoulder Replacements in Scottsdale for 22 years.

Dr. Kozinn also has a special interest in outpatient arthroscopic surgery for knee, and shoulder.  The most common knee problems treated with an arthroscope (a pencil like camera that goes into the knee thru a small hole) are meniscus cartilage tears and debridement of isolated arthritic areas of the joint.  Utilizing these minimally invasive treatments results in rapid return to work and athletic activities for most patients.  Shoulder problems are very common in "maturing athletes", and many of these pathologies such as rotator cuff tears can be managed quite effectively with the arthroscope, allowing patients to return to their favorite sports and activities.

Dr. Evangelista has extensive experience in the treatment of complicated fractures and soft tissue injuries of the arms and legs, as well as special Fellowship training at The University Hospital of Arizona in sports medicine. He is particularly skilled in ACL ligament reconstruction of the knee, and complex arthoscopic reconstructions of the shoulder. He was assistant team physican for the University Arizona varsity athletes during his fellowship, and he now brings that additional training and experience to Scottsdale.

Dr. Kozinn and Dr. Evangelista bring their experience, expertise, and compassionate care together at the Scottsdale Joint Center to provide patients with the highest quality of orthopedic care. Their mission to get you back on your feet, and back to your life, with a full a rapid recovery.
